Ohio Turnpike + Ohio Heart of it all Branding Initiative
Project Overview
In partnership with the Ohio Turnpike and the State of Ohio, we transformed Ohio Turnpike service plazas into cohesive, immersive environments designed to engage travelers as they move across the state. The goal was to create a consistent yet location-specific experience that celebrates Ohio’s identity while connecting visitors to the regions they are traveling through.
Custom window graphics featuring the “Ohio, Heart of it All” branding establish a strong visual identity and intuitive wayfinding at each plaza, creating a welcoming and recognizable experience from entry to exit.
Design & Visual Strategy
I designed every graphic used throughout the service plazas, ensuring visual consistency across multiple locations while allowing each plaza to reflect its surrounding region. Inside the food courts, custom banners and divider window graphics showcase photography that highlights the best of Ohio—from natural landscapes to cultural landmarks.
As part of the creative team, I helped curate and select imagery for each individual plaza. Photography was chosen both from our internal selection process and from submissions by Tourism Bureau partners across the state. Every image was intentionally placed to reflect nearby destinations, travel routes, and regional highlights—creating a unified experience that still feels locally relevant.
Immersive, Location-Based Experience
Each plaza was designed to feel connected to its geographic context, reinforcing a sense of place for travelers passing through. By aligning visuals with location and movement, the experience encourages exploration and helps travelers discover Ohio’s diverse destinations as part of their journey.
Production, Vendor Coordination & Asset Management
In addition to design, I played a key role in the production planning and execution of this large-scale, multi-location program. While not all signage was printed in house, I worked closely with an external print vendor to produce banners, window graphics, and divider panels by delivering precise, print-ready artwork and coordinating orders tailored to each individual plaza.
I created detailed diagrams, charts, and internal documentation to organize the project and clearly communicate placement plans to both our internal team and on-site installers. These materials ensured that every piece of artwork was installed correctly and consistently across all locations.
I also managed and maintained a comprehensive asset database of over 1,000 images, including visuals curated by our team and assets submitted by Tourism Bureau partners. In total, 1,037 signs were produced and installed across 14 Ohio Turnpike service plazas, requiring careful coordination, version control, and quality oversight from concept through installation.
